Long Pond Lakeville

Took my kayak out sunday to long pond and fished the meandering trees and debris of the long pond river. The weirdest thing was happening in that section of the pond. Fish were crashing at bait all over the shallow sunken shrubs, branches, and weeds. Dozens upon dozens of fish were breaching the water tucked way back in the brush which made it almost impossible to get to them even from my kayak. I spotted what i believe they were all after, I rolled up on what looked like one of many schools of big herring/large shiners? and that must be what was driving these bass and pickerel crazy. I managed only two bass over 2 lbs in about 2 1/2 hours of fishing. The main pond was far too windy with white caps for my 10 ft yak. It was a sight to behold being surrounded by hundreds of ravenous fish but they were impossible to get to in the back edges of all those trees.

  • Probably herring. Where did you launch your yak? Any smallies in there?
