Spot Pond

Took a littlebtrip to spot pond this afternoon. I caught about a half dozen juvenile smallmouth on a quarter ounce reef runner cicada, switched to a lipless crank and got two lagemouth in the 16 to 18 inch range. I eent for a swim and changed spots caught another largemouth about the same size. I put the cicada back on and caught my first ever white perch, and three decent yellow perch. Eating well tonight. The only downside was that one of our tireless public employees made me dump two ice cold yeunglings plus the one I was drinking. All that free country stuff is only in the movies and the south

  • The rangers and the staties have been all business at spot this year. I've seen a lot of trash, especially beer cans/bottles so that might be why. If you have a couple beers make sure you clean up after yourself. Lucky you didn't get a ticket.

  • Spot is an offline res and is considered an emergency backup. I dont care if you swim or not but it is def not allowed.

  • I have been thinking, perhaps wrongly, that spot pond is no longer water supply. It was closed to public access for years and is now open. As far as drinking in public goes, that is illegal anywhere. I was not bothered by that, only that he did not ask about my fishing license. I will have to look into spot pond's mwra status. There are no blue water supply signs around it anymore

  • Not to jump up on a soap box and preach about it, but neither is swimming in a resevoir. I know I've seen my share of people doing it, but they aren't supposed to even touch the water. Gotta read up on the rules a little more there dude, including drinking alcoholic beverages. personally I don't see the Troopers actions as being anything but right and as far as being grumpy, he has to tell people breaking the rules all day NOT TO, despite it being clearly posted. Not trying to be a dink, just voicing an opinion.

  • Yes, I went in the water. It was really hot. I had to dump my beer for a state trooper who was really in a foul mood. What bothers me is that I pay 40 each year for my fishing license, and he never even asked for it. I guess poaching is ok but having a beer on state land not so much.

  • Did I read that right, you went for a swim? Your body was in the water or did you mean something else?

  • why would u dump your drinks for a public employee? if you werent wasted i dont see why you would.
