First Connecticut Lake offers good to excellent fishing for Lake Trout and Landlocked Salmon in a remote setting. Located in the northernmost corner of NH near other prime Trout and Salmon waters (Second Connecticut Lake, Lake Francis), it is a clean, unspoiled body of water with a 19 mile, rather undeveloped shoreline. The largest of 3 lakes created when the Connecticut River was dammed, First Connecticut Lake offers some average size Trout and Salmon. A good boat ramp with ample parking is located near the outlet of the dam. Salmon fishing is good in spring and fall where the river enters the lake in the fly-fishing only section from the Magalloway Bridge to the inlet at Green's Point. Average ice-out is during the first week in May.
First Connecticut Lake is located in Coos County in northern New Hampshire, in the town of Pittsburg. At 3,071 acres (1,228 ha)[1], it is the eighth-largest lake located entirely in New Hampshire. It is the lowest (and largest) of a chain of lakes near the headwaters of the Connecticut River.
