I grew up fishing Little Dan Hole pond--every last square foot. I assure you there are no bookies in this pond. There are yellow perch, hornpout, minnows, and a huge population of ravenous chain pickeral.
Dan Hole Pond Description
Dan Hole Pond is currently managed for Brook and Lake Trout, with Landlocked Salmon as a secondary fishery. The pond is not easy to get to with access through a commercial campground and launch site on the shore. The picturesque pond, high in the hills of Carroll County, is popular with anglers who enjoy the good Brook Trout fishery and occasionally a trophy Lake Trout. The best time to fish this pond is late April, just after ice-out. A sturdy boat and good life jackets are strongly recommended. With high wind gales in early spring coming out of the nearby mountains, this pond can be treacherous. There are fair populations of Lake Trout and Landlocked Salmon, though few, if any, Rainbow Smelt. The northern and Eastern shorelines are the most productive for Trout and Salmon, Which may be taken by trolling and drift fishing with live Smelt. Brook Trout are found in both Big Dan Hole Pond and Little Dan Hole Pond, with Big Dan Hole Pond producing fish in excess of 2 pounds.
Dan Hole Pond is a 443-acre (1.8 km2)[1] water body located in Carroll County in eastern New Hampshire, United States, in the towns of Ossipee and Tuftonboro. The pond is situated on the south side of the Ossipee Mountains. Water exits Dan Hole Pond via the Dan Hole River, part of the Ossipee Lake watershed and ultimately that of the Saco River in Maine.
