Contoocook Lake is a 380-acre water body located in Cheshire County in southwestern New Hampshire, United States, in the towns of Jaffrey and Rindge. The lake, along with Pool Pond, forms the headwaters of the Contoocook River, which flows north to the Merrimack River in Penacook, New Hampshire. Contoocook Lake is a good place for freshwater fishing with catfish, sunfish and bass. Formed by a dam on the Contoocook River, this lake is a shallow body of water with a warm water fishery. The lake is especially shallow at the long arm behind the dam which forms a large marsh of more than 100 acres. The lake was originally stocked with Smallmouth Bass in the early 40's, but today the main fishery is for Largemouth Bass although there is no record of Largemouth Bass being stocked here. The lake also contains an excellent fishery for White Perch, Bluegills and Hornpout(Brown Bullhead). Yellow Perch are also well represented and provide good ice-fishing. Access to the lake is at the unpaved public boat ramp in Rindge. The shoreline is moderately developed with the Jaffrey Public Beach and Woodmere Golf Course on the northeastern section of the lake. Average ice-out date is late April.
