Smallmouth Bass were originally stocked in this lake in 1938. Numerous stockings during the next 2 decades failed to establish an adequate Smallmouth Bass fishery. In 1955 over-populations of competing undesirable species were reduced and that lake was restocked with Largemouth Bass, Chain Pickerel and Brown Bullheads. This lake is also one of the few that contains an excellent Bluegill fishery. These panfish, although under utilized by anglers, provide fast ice-fishing or open water fishing opportunities which are hard to match. The shoreline is varied, containing areas which are wooded, rocky and swampy. The bottom of the lake also is varied from gravel to mud with moderate amounts of gravel shoals. Average ice-out date is May 1st.
